ARITECH expands its offering with BIM

ARITECH ENGINEERING is an engineering firm renowned for its expertise in electrical engineering. The company works on a wide range of projects, from commercial to industrial. It is developing its skills to meet new market expectations. In recent years, there has been a sharp increase in demand for BIM-integrated projects. To meet this demand, ARITECH has chosen to integrate innovative digital solutions. It is in this context that the company has adopted FTZ-BIM and SchemBAT, two software programmes designed to accelerate the transition to BIM.

A first large-scale BIM project

The Écocampus ‘La Pauliane’ project in Aix-en-Provence marked a decisive step for ARITECH. Thomas S. from the Design Office explains that it was their ‘first major BIM project’. He also points out that ‘the client allowed an Open BIM process in IFC format’. These constraints required a profound transformation of working methods. It was no longer enough to simply produce construction plans; the model had to be completed with data from the electrical package. The implementation of FTZ-BIM interfaced with SchemBAT made it possible to overcome this hurdle without disrupting the methods already in place.

Thomas S. points out that ‘device outputs, panels, cable trays and reservations are transferred directly from SchemBAT to the model.’ He also emphasises that this is done ‘without re-entry’. This automation saved a considerable amount of time in creating and modifying plans. It increased data reliability and simplified coordination between stakeholders. Thanks to its native connection with FTZ-BIM, SchemBAT enabled seamless integration into the model. Another key factor was compliance with project standards. Thomas explains that ‘the information specified in SchemBAT symbols is transcribed directly into the model’. He adds that this is done ‘according to customer requirements’. This automatic compliance, made possible by the combination of SchemBAT and FTZ-BIM, facilitated validation and accelerated exchanges between ARITECH and the other parties involved.

Tangible results and sustainable momentum

The contribution of FTZ-BIM and SchemBAT software had an immediate effect. Thomas S. sums up the experience: ‘We saved time with a direct link between the execution plans and the model.’ This first project demonstrated the value of successful integration. It proved that a BIM project could be carried out effectively from the very first attempt. It also strengthened ARITECH’s confidence in its ability to manage complex projects. Today, the trend is continuing. Thomas observes that ‘there are more and more BIM projects.’ This development confirms the importance of choosing our solutions to support this evolution.

The Félix Le Dantec high school experience with SchemBAT

As part of its training programme in electrical engineering, the Félix Le Dantec general and technological high school in Lannion (22300) has chosen to integrate SchemBAT software into its teaching programme. Ms Kervarrec, a teacher of Industrial Technical Sciences and an electrical engineering BTS (Advanced Technician Certificate), shares her experience with us.

A turning point with the reform of the Electrical Engineering BTS

‘When the Electrical Engineering BTS was reformed in 2020, we were obliged to work with industry-specific software to prepare our students as effectively as possible for working life,’ explains Ms Kervarrec. This reform marked a turning point by promoting the tools used in companies in the training courses, and pushed teachers to turn to concrete solutions, aligned with the realities on the ground.

A reference tool for teaching wiring

SchemBAT has rapidly established itself as a reference tool for electrical wiring in buildings and, by extension, in educational environments too. ‘The software brings together all wiring design, with the standard and a dedicated library,’ she adds. They are encouraged to use their knowledge of domestic and tertiary sector electricity while at the same time becoming familiar with professional IT tools: ‘They gather and use their skills on a professional software package. They also acquire a command of computer-aided design tools’.

Among the most useful features for training, Ms Kervarrec cites: ‘The architectural diagram, an up-to-date library, creation of single-line diagrams, table management and editing of equipment lists’. These features enable students to work on real-life cases and simulate real projects on their own.

Positive adoption by students

Student feedback on the use of the software has been positive. ‘It’s easy for them to get to grips with it and they clearly see how much time it saves,’ she says. For the teachers, this commitment from the students is essential to guarantee the effectiveness of the training.

A progressive teaching approach

As far as teaching is concerned, students are trained progressively. ‘They work on real cases, from the simplest to the most complex, to understand the subtleties of the software’. This step-by-step approach ensures that the tool is accessible to all, while increasing their skills throughout the course.

Better preparation for the professional world

Asked whether the software is improving students’ preparation for the world of work, Ms Kervarrec replies optimistically: ’Yes, I hope so. The use of software such as SchemBAT creates a concrete bridge between school training and the requirements of companies.

Finally, she recommends SchemBAT to other schools: ‘Yes, it’s quite easy to use and well done. This ease of use combined with a wealth of functions makes SchemBAT a tool that is perfectly suited to teaching electrical engineering in vocational and technological high schools.

Avignon town council, and more specifically the energy department within the buildings department, manages all the electrical plans for the town’s various buildings. To successfully carry out their tasks, they have equipped themselves with SchemBAT software.

The Town Hall’s Project Manager explains why he chose SchemBAT:

Founded in 1976 in Gleizé (69), ELECTROFORCE carries out electrical installations for commercial and industrial buildings. The company operates throughout France.

After 24 years with the company, Mr. Timothée B. and 2 partners will take over ELECTROFORCE in 2021. These partners also own companies specializing in electrical installation and cabinet making. Today, ELECTROFORCE has around twenty employees and sales of just over 4 million euros.

Having risen from Design Office Manager to Managing Director, he explains why they’ve been using SchemBAT since 2008:

“At the time, we were looking for a more ergonomic schematic software than the one we had. I was approached by FTZ, who introduced me to SchemBAT. I found the software very interesting in its entirety, as it also allowed me to manage the drawings (layout) part of the installations.

NGSO SPIDER is a leader in the field of electrical prefabrication, thanks to its octopus or electrical spider pre-wiring concept. The company offers solutions for the residential and commercial sectors, for both professionals and private customers.

The URMA PACA campus (Chambre des Métiers et de l’Artisanat) offers a wide range of training courses for the construction industry, from CAP to BAC+3.
The CFAR branch in Digne-les-Bains offers apprenticeship training for CAPs and BPs (Brevet Professionnel) in the electrical branch.
The establishment has acquired SchemBAT electrical CAD software licenses to train students in best practices in the electrical building sector.

Teacher Franck Q. explains:
We chose SchemBAT software for our electrical course, because we felt it was the most comprehensive, both in terms of teaching and business.

After training at FTZ in the use of SchemBAT software, our teachers in turn train students on concrete projects. Starting from a house plan, they design a standardized electrical installation in SchemBAT:
layout, wiring, diagram and panel.
They define the high/low currents and add KNX home automation devices for energy management, lights, shutters, etc.
Then they put their electrical studies into practice, wiring a 3D cell with false ceilings, walls and floor.
